Farmers market

Last weekend we accidentally strolled into the farmers market in Coconut Grove. The minute we walked in, we wanted to buy it all.   As I browsed through all of the delicious looking items, I noticed that few of them had been marked with prices, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

We carefully picked a few items, including a jar of an unbranded organic raw honey, a bottle of fresh orange + passion fruit juice, a small tub of homemade bell pepper hummus, a tropical fruit salad, and a mint tabbouleh salad.  Oh, and on our way to the register I spotted turkey brown figs (the kind I used here) and I simply couldn’t resist.

At the cash register, the gentleman helping us check out asked if it was our first time at the market. I nodded and quickly commented on how much we had loved it.  He took one good luck at our basket and chuckled (bad sign). Somehow, we managed to choose a few of the most expensive items there.  This was duly noted by the cashier who did not refrain from commenting on our “expensive taste in organic food.” I’m still wondering if I should take that as a compliment…

Next time, I’ll be sure to grab a price list before I start browsing through the isles. At least that way I’ll know if I’m picking the $20 medicinal honey to bring home to eat with my pancakes!  One thing is for sure though, everything was fresh and delicious.
