Happy Thanksgiving

This photo of my sister and I was taken in a cable car on our way up to Pico Espejo in Merida, Venezuela, back in November of 1988. I have this photo on my nightstand, but only recently remembered where it had been taken.

This Thanksgiving weekend we are planning a roadtrip in Venezuela. It’s been snowing in the Andes, so maybe we’ll try to make it back to Pico Espejo after all these years.  After all, it’s not everyday you get to see snow in Venezuela.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Back to basics

As a true Venezuelan, arepas have always been a part of my diet.  A simple way to describe one is to say that it’s a type of Venezuelan bread made of corn flour.

Living in the U.S., it’s been fun to introduce this tradition to friends of different backgrounds. Arepas are very easy to make and can be enjoyed at any time with a variety of fillings. Anything from plain with butter to cheese, veggies and meats.

For as long as I can remember, one of my favorites has been the breakfast arepa. This very basic version includes an egg sunny side up, cheese, and tomato. It’s perfect every time.

Girls Dinner

After much deliberation, I decided the girls dinner would be holiday-themed.  It was the perfect opportunity to give thanks and squeeze in some much-needed face time. Especially before the madness of the holiday season kicks in next week.

An Argentine Wedding

Last Saturday, two of our friends got married during an absolutely gorgeous outdoor wedding in Escobar, just about an hour outside of Buenos Aires.

Perfect weather, unbelievable setting, and delicious food (specially the desserts).

I fell in love with hats again, and sipped lots of bubbly.

Seeking inspiration

{Beautifully set dining table via A Beach Cottage}

Next week I will be hosting my first girls dinner in the new apt.  I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time!

I’ve been browsing favorite blogs for theme inspiration to make my gals evening a little more special.  Below are a few posts that have caught my attention so far.

Flowers & bubbly are so girly and go so well together.

This summer pasta salad would be amazing even in the fall.

I could have this tomato salad everyday.

You can never go wrong with bruschetta.

This holiday-themed pot-de-creme looks so yummy and adorable.

Who doesn’t like cute mini-cupcakes?
