Back to basics

As a true Venezuelan, arepas have always been a part of my diet.  A simple way to describe one is to say that it’s a type of Venezuelan bread made of corn flour.

Living in the U.S., it’s been fun to introduce this tradition to friends of different backgrounds. Arepas are very easy to make and can be enjoyed at any time with a variety of fillings. Anything from plain with butter to cheese, veggies and meats.

For as long as I can remember, one of my favorites has been the breakfast arepa. This very basic version includes an egg sunny side up, cheese, and tomato. It’s perfect every time.
