Smashing Pumpkins

This year for Thanksgiving I decorated with mini pumpkins, as seen here. I did this with double-intent.

First and foremost, it was love at first site at the pumpkin patch for just 2 x $1.  Then, I figured I wouldn’t have to store these later (as with normal holiday decorations) or throw them out, because what’s more delicious than actually eating pumpkin this time of year, right?

Christmas spirit

I’m usually a bit of a grinch, but having a Christmas tree at home inevitably uplifts the holiday spirits!  I thought I’d spread a little holiday cheer by sharing some very cool season-appropriate posts I’ve stumbled upon around the web.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it…dough!

Although not a holiday post, these pie pops are definitely festive!

I’ll be making this sophisticated slushie over the holidays, fo sho!

Why not make your own snowflake sugar cookies?

Throw a gingerbread-house party (just think of all the leftover candy)!

Here’s some pretty holiday inspiration, just because.

Thai Coconut-Curry Tilapia

Last night my friend Pati invited me over for dinner.  Not only did she cook the most delicious dinner for me and made me feel so spoiled, it was also nice to get a little one-on-one time with a good friend amidst the madness of the holiday season.

I’d never had curry tilapia before, and was super impressed at how good this recipe turned out.  It was the perfect comfort food for this crazy cold Miami weather we’ve been having. Check out the recipe, try it at home, and thank Chef Pati for this great recipe discovery!

Driving through the Andes

As a final chapter to the Andes series, I wanted to share with you a curious anecdote about food shopping in the Andes, and the Venezuelan countryside in general.

It is absolutely possible to do all of your food shopping from the comfort of, or at most a few steps from, your car.

At any given intersection, roll down your windows and you will have an assortment of local fruits and foods, at arms length.
