Summer vacation

The minute we found out that one of Fran’s best friends was getting married on July 9th, in Madrid, we knew this would be our summer vacation.

We quickly pulled out our calendars and figured that combining the 4th of July holiday with four vacation days would buy us TEN whole days in Spain  – so much possibility!

After much deliberation, we have decided on a road trip through the south coast of Spain. Our trip will start in Malaga and we will drive along the coast, with overnight stops along the way, until we reach Sevilla. We plan to head over to Madrid on Thursday, for the last four days of our trip.

I’m so excited and can’t wait to share highlights of our trip once we return!

Cake praise

Last weekend, my friend Monica invited us over for a BBQ.  A friend of her’s brought this amazing cake, which I still cannot get over. It is basically an oversized alfajor.  Layers of crumbly cornflour goodness filled with sweet dulce de leche (similar to the kind I used here).  This cake tasted and looked just like an extra large version of the cookies I wrote about here.

Unfortunately, I do not have the recipe for this cake yet, but I am determined to find it.  If anyone out there has a similar one, please, I beg you to share.

Golf School

After many years of being reluctant to the idea, Fran has finally convinced me to start playing golf.   For the past three months, we’ve both been taking classes at the Jim McLean Golf School in Doral. Rob, our instructor, is great. His teaching methods are the best and the photos and video he provides (with comments) are so helpful. I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far!

My first day at the school, I thought this sign was pretty funny, but I quickly learned that it couldn’t be more appropriate.

This past weekend, an enormous iguana decided to relax right in front of my spot on the driving range. I am a beginner, so in order to avoid all chances of it becoming an instant target, I took a break and traded my golf club for my camera.

It decided to stay put for a while, so I was able to get up close and personal and even play around with some of the camera settings. Apparently, there are many iguanas on this golf course and they’re quite tame from always having people around.

I never realized how much detail there is on iguana skin. It’s interesting that I’m learning this at golf school, no?

100 Things – Week 1

To make a long story short, I ran into this 100 Simple Things project and quickly decided I needed to do this.  Now, every Friday for the next 10 weeks, I will be posting a list of 10 things that make me happy.

I’m excited to take this on because I believe it’s absolutely necessary to take note of all those little things in life that we sometimes take for granted and be thankful for them. They may be the littlest or most insignificant things, but they are the ones that brighten up my day every time.

#1 – Pretty flower arrangements that light up & freshen an entire room

#2 – A cup of tea with honey

#3 – Extra chocolate chips in my cupcake batter

#4 – My striped headboard, which was my first DIY home project :)

#5 – Sushi delivery

#6 –  Untouched snow (which I remember dearly from my days in the Northeast)

#7 – Pretty mornings as seen from my balcony

#8 – Homemade cappuccino

#9 – Afternoon bike rides

#10 – Paying unexpected visits to the farmer’s market
