Weekend Escape

I mentioned last week that we had escaped to the Dominican Republic for the weekend. One of my best friends (pictured above) lives there, and we couldn’t have asked for a better host. We arrived on Friday night and flew back to Miami on Monday before sunrise. I have no doubt that we made the best of the two full days we spent there.

Our mornings began with a full-fledged Dominican breakfast: mangú, fried cheese, scrambled eggs, cold cuts,  fried salami, sausages, and fruits.

On Saturday, we took off on a boat to spend the day at Palmilla, known for its turquoise waters that resemble those of a swimming pool.

We headed back home around sunset, passing by a gorgeous sailboat.

On Sunday, we took a boat ride down Chavón river. From there we got a very cool view of the medieval European village of Altos de Chavón.

After exploring the river, we headed to Isla Catalina, about a 15 minute boat ride away. It’s safe to say we fell in love with the pristine waters and the scenic surroundings.

We headed back to our home-away-from-home at La Marina around 4pm that day, to get ourselves all packed up for our journey to Santo Domingo that night and back to Miami the following morning.

Do let me know if you ever plan a trip to the area as I would be more than happy to give you tips and recommendations. xo
